As some of you may know, multiple Yahoo email accounts were recently compromised to send unwanted emails to saved Yahoo email addresses in the Yahoo accounts, including mine. This goes to show that even when you select strong passwords, your account can still be vulnerable to unauthorized access and used as a launching pad to send spams. The big lesson is to limit the number of saved email addresses in the contact list to the absolute minimum in order to limit the damage when such inevitable incidents occur. Also, we have to consciously decide what communication systems we want to use and why while considering their potential exposure to intrusions. I wrote an article to describe the details of the incident which should also give you additional information regarding spam risks and protection measures in our control. We must remember that we do not control every thing and when we use external systems, our privacy is as protected as their systems are secured. Read the article for more details.
